The European football season is drawing to a close, with just a few matchweeks remaining before the end of the top divisions across the continent.

And as the final match of the campaign comes ever closer, the race for the European Golden Shoe grows more and more intense.

The Golden Shoe is a prestigious award handed to the best goal scorer across Europe, though it is based on points rather than goals scored.

To quantify the quality of the different leagues in Europe, every division is given a ‘factor’ by which goals are multiplied to work out every player’s points total.

So every goal scored in the Premier League is worth two points, whereas goals scored in the Portuguese Primeira Liga are worth only 1.5 points.
