Francois Omam-Biyik celebrates against Argentina in 1990
If you missed Sport magazine’s 100 greatest World Cup stars, then relax because talkSPORT will count them down every day this week.
This list, featuring Pele, Diego Maradona and Zinedine Zidane, looks at the greatest moments from the most iconic footballers – from great goalscorers and majestic defenders to sensational scoundrels and those who just didn’t know the rules.
97) Francois Omam-Biyik: Cameroon
Diop (previous entry) wasn’t the first African footballer to shock the defending champions in the opening game of a World Cup. Beanpole Omam-Biyik did exactly the same to Argentina in 1990, leaping to nod a weak header past a piss-poor Nery Pumpido just six minutes after his brother Andre Kana-Biyik had been sent off. It was the first real act of Italia ‘90’s love affair with Cameroon.
THE MOST ICONIC WORLD CUP STARS: 98) PAPA BOUBA DIOP
talkSPORT will be at the World Cup to bring you all the best action from the very beginning on 14 June
