Chelsea are preparing a fresh bid for Roma striker Edin Dzeko
Chelsea are preparing an improved bid to sign former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko from Roma
But, according to reports, the Blues could make a move for Arsenal frontman Olivier Giroud if their pursuit of Dzeko fails.
The Blues are keen on landing Dzeko and Roma team-mate Emerson Palmieri in a double swoop before Wednesday’s 11pm transfer deadline.
It is claimed both could be snapped up in deal worth around £44million, but latest reports claim it has hit a stumbling block.
According to the Sunday Express, Chelsea are struggling to agree terms with Dzeko, who is not keen on moving his family to London so soon after buying a new home in the Italian capital.
The striker is also said to be demanding a two-and-a-half year contract to move to Stamford Bridge, but Chelsea are only willing to sign the 31-year-old on an 18-month deal.
It was claimed on Friday that Chelsea will pull out of the deal if an agreement can’t be reached before the end of the weekend, and that they will instead turn their attention to Arsenal’s Giroud.
The Frenchman, 31, is out-of-favour at the Emirates Stadium and has been strongly linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund as a makeweight in the Gunners’ move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
However, with Antonio Conte keen to add a back-up striker to his ranks before the window shuts, Chelsea could look to hijack that deal with a late move.
